Superb tight and bright undated later printing of this cute as a button circa 1960 edition -- bearing choice autograph addition: Title page features McKay illustration showing Tiny Tim Cratchit crutch in hand astride his father's shoulder on a busy London street and the blank facing page bears a unique frontispiece for onto it is tipped a bold "Best wishes" and signature in black ink on 3" X 4" blue sheet of TERRY KILBURN born 1926 the child star who played Tiny Tim in the popular 1938 film version. Rackham wird gewöhnlich nicht im Zusammenhang mit Dickens in Erinnerung bleiben doch seine Illustrationen des Weihnachtsmärchens 1915 waren überaus erfolgreich denn er verstand es die Tradition von 'Phiz' und Cruikshank in den Bildern des viktorianischen London in seinen eigenen Stil zu integrieren und gleichzeitig in den Geisterszenen Raum für seine Fantasie zu finden. Hier entwickelt er auch sein besonderes Talent für Scherenschnitte das unter Illustratoren selten ist Hudson Arthur Rackham S. 106. Copy number '65' of an edition limited to only 200 copies printed on the Press's own making of Magnani using 11pt Bell type and Nineteenth Century wooden type ornaments. Original red cloth-backed patterned paper- covered boards with a matching slipcase printed paper labels to the front book cover and to the spine of the slipcase. Quarto 10½" x 10¼" pp. 6 54 with seven tipped-in illustrations and one tipped-in and tissue guarded autographed preparatory sketch by Chris Burke. Loosely inserted is the 4 page publisher's prospectus. The Book and Slipcase are in Fine condition. A very handsome production. Scarce. More images available on request.
