Half tan calf leather cover with 7 raised bands black and red leather title boxes and gilt blind stamped decor have wear to the extremities but clean and in very good condition. David Copperfield volume has repaired detached front board using some type of clear tape along the inner and exterior hinge. Though not a professional repair it seems to be holding the board on fairly well while the tape being visible on the spine and front board. Boards and spines are straight. Bindings are tight. Matching marbled page edges are a bit worn and faded but clean. Marbled end sheets and paste downs also matching are bright glossy and clean. B&w engraved frontispieces and plates in very good condition. Pages are very lightly toned but clean and very good. . Hurd and Houghton hardcover

Charles Dickens 1812-1870 was an extremely celebrated Victorian writer known for his works which document the social conditions of the time and his works are still immensely popular today. 'Martin Chuzzlewit' is a picaresque novel portraying the Chuzzlewit family and their selfishness satirically. 'Dombey and Son' is a novel following Paul Dombey a wealthy shipping company owner who is distressed by his lack of a male heir and rejects his daughter; this carries Dickensian themes of child cruelty deceit and social classes. 'Bleak House' tells the tale of Esther Summerson with a legal case at its centre.
