The set comprises Our Mutual Friend Nicholas Nickelby Old Curiosity Shop and A Tale of Two Cities Sketches by Boz and Christmas Books Little Dorrit Oliver Twist and Hard Times Barnaby Rudge and The Uncommercial Traveller Dombey & Sons Great Expectations and American Notes David Copperfield Matin Chuzzlewit Pickwick Papers. All edges gilt and decoratie gilt and black embosed decoration to the spines and boards. Marbled end papers. All volumes contain frontispiece plates and a few other b/w illustration plates. A little rubbing to the head and tail of the spine of the volume of Barnaby Rudge Oliver Twist Pickwick Papers and Little Dorrit. A few bands on the spines are also a little rubbed as are many of the board corners -though the bindings remain very fresh clean and bright. There is a little splitting to the fornt inner hinge to the volumes David Copperfield Nicholas Nickelby and Little Dorrit and to the rear inner hinge of Little Dorrit - the boards remain firmly attached. The casing is sprung to the volumes Old Curiosity Shop Oliver Twist and Barnaby Rudge. the front board of Dombey & Sons has split from the spine revealing the underlying binding and leaving the boards slightly shaken. neat pencil name and place inscription to the preliminary blank page of Nicholas Nickleby. There is a water stain with tide mark to half of the frontispiece plate and one other illustration plate of Old Curiosity Shop though with no other signs of moisture exposure. A little foxing to the edges of the spine strip of Pickwick Papers and Nicholas Nickelby. The front end paper of Oliver Twist has become detached from the rest of the textblock several short tears and niks to the edges of the front end paper. One binding is sitting a little proud. All volumes have a little scattered foxing mainly to the fore edges and page margins with more marked foxing to the volume Dombey & Sons particulalry to the first few and last few pages including frontispiece plate and title page. A few page corner tips are slightly turned. The volumes remain clean and tight. A good set in a very attractive binding. Chapman & Hall Limited hardcover

Beautiful burgundy cloth richly embossed with floral/Greek frieze to boards and rich gilt embossed titling to spines. Bleak House has light turning in of the cloth at the head and tail of the spine and a light bump to the head of the front board. A few light soil marks to the upper fore edges. Nicholas Nickelby has a light bump to the head and tail of the spine. Barnaby Rudge has a light bump to the cloth at the head of the spine and light turning in of the cloth at the tail of the spine. One corner slightly bumped and the top corner of the front board has been lightly bowed in. Light crease to the top corner of pp 159 - 243 not affecting any of the text. David Copperfield has light turning in of the cloth at the head and tail of the spine and there are several light foxspots to the upper fore edge. Slightest of bumps to the two corners of the front board. A Tale of Two Cities has a light bump to the cloth at the head of the spine and the cloth at the tail of the spine is lightly turned in and a slight bump to the tail of the front board. Uncommercial Traveller etc has a bump to the head of the spine. Martin Chuzzlewit has a slight bump to the head of the spine and the cloth at the tail of the spine is turned out and slightly creased. Christmas Stories has light bumps to the head and tail of the spine and to the head of the rear board. Sketches by Boz has a bump to the head of the spine with slight assocaited creasing to the cloth and there is occasional scattered light foxing to the upper fore edges. Christmas Book etc has a light bump to the head of the spine and the cloth at the tail of the spine is lightly turned in. Slight occasional foxing to the upper fore edges. Dombey and Son has bumps to the head and tail of the spine and a few very slight scrtatches to the upper fore edges in no way affecting the page margins themselves. Old Curiosity Shop has the slightest of niks to the cloth at the head of the spine and both the head and tail of the spine is lightly turned in. The books are well preserved being fresh and clean with tight bindings. A very good very attractive well preserved uniform largely complete set of the Waverley novels by Charles Dickens.
