Edgewear to corners. ; 256 pages; Antimachus of Colophon, Greek poet and grammarian, flourished about 400 BC. Scarcely anything is known of his life. His poetical efforts were not generally appreciated, although he received encouragement from his younger contemporary Plato (Plutarch, Lysander, 18). His chief works were: an epic Thebais, an account of the expedition of the Seven against Thebes and the war of the Epigoni; and an elegiac poem Lyde, so called from the poet's mistress, for whose death he endeavoured to find consolation telling stories from mythology of heroic disasters (Plutarch, Consul, ad Apoll. 9; Athenaeus xiii. 597). Antimachus was the founder of "learned" epic poetry, and the forerunner of the Alexandrian school, whose critics allotted him the next place to Homer. He also prepared a critical recension of the Homeric poems

In 8° (18,5x10,7 cm); 61, (5) pp. Senza brossura ma no slegato. Prima rara edizion, nessun esemplare censito in ICCU di questa tragedia, tratta “Da un M. inedito di Gio. Villani della Biblioteca Laurenziana in Firenze plu. 13” e stampata a Livorno dalla Tipografia Ferrari, opera di Ignazio Valletta (a volte nella forma D’Ignazio Valletta) che fu autore di diverse tragedie. La storia ripercorre le vicende di Manfredi signore delle terre tra Romagna e Puglia che si innamorò di Adelaide e uccise il di lei marito Boemondo Marchese di Fano. Una maschera incisa al frontespizio ed in buone condizioni di conservazione.
In 16, pp. 57 + (3b). Br. ed. con etichetta della casa ed. Loescher applicata al p. ant. Saggio critico sulla tragedia dannunziana 'La nave'. Scrive l'A.: 'Non intesi di atteggiarmi a Paladino del pudore, cosi' rudemente malmenato nella Nave. La mia critica e' un atto di ribellione del senso estetico, del pari calpestato dal D'Annunzio...'.
