Written by Francis VI second Duke of La Rochefoucauld a French writer moralist memoirist and military man of the seventeenth century. Considered an important figure in the literary movement of classicism and best known for this work. Le Barbier de Seville et Le Mariage de Figaro 1907. Two plays being: The Barber of Seville conceived as an opera comique following a traditional commedia dell'arte structure following a simple love triangle in which a Spanish count has fallen in love with a girl called Rosine; and The Marriage of Figaro a comedy in five acts the Count has already grown bored with his marriage and is taking notice of Figaro's fiancé Suzanne. These plays are followed by The Guilty Mother to complete the three Figaro plays. Written by Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais a French playwright and diplomat during the Age of Enlightenment best known for his three Figaro plays. In the original full calf with gilt. Externally sound with rubbing and light fading to the extremities. Minor loss to the head and tail of the spines with the odd small mark to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm to Les Maximes.
