Eight reference photographs from the film bound in variously among the script pages each with an RKO stamp on the versos and four with a mimeo snipe on the versos. Original wrapper bound in with the manuscript ink annotation of Wald's name on the top right as well as six pink revision pages of an "Optional Ending" following the script.<br /> <br /> Jerry Wald is best remembered for his long and successful association with Warner Brothers as both a screenwriter and producer of a number of notable films including "Mildred Pierce" 1945 "Humoresque" 1946 "Key Largo" 1948 and "Flamingo Road" 1949. In the 1950s he moved to Twentieth Century-Fox and was the producer there for "An Affair to Remember" 1957 "Peyton Place" 1957 and "Sons and Lovers" 1960. <br /> <br /> Remake of the 1942 French film "Le volle bleu" direced by Jean Stelli and starring Gaby Morlay and Elvire Popesco. Jane Wyman stars as a WWI war widow who after loosing her only child spends her life as a children's nurse.<br /> <br /> Bound in light green cloth with dark green quarter leather binding with five raised bands and gilt titles on the spine. Good overall condition one dark stain on the right of the photograph near the margin. Aimé Dupont was a Belgian photographer first active in Brussels then in Paris. He settled in New-York with his American wife Etta Greer herself a photographer. Already in Paris the photographer had specialized in photographs of actors and singers from the Opera and he renewed this specialty for the New-York opera and all the French artists who came to the USA. Known as the etcher of books Wall wrote and illustrated his books designed them etched the plates printed and signed each etching then cut folded gathered sewed bound lettered and labeled them. His carear began designing post cards and holiday cards over 5000 cards. His works were also in the private collections of J. P. Morgan Franklin D. Roosevelt Henry C. Frick and Dr. N.C. Mathewson. He soon became known as the "Postcard King" and designed over 5000 comic cards. The year1915 marked a defining point in Wall’s artistic career. Wall visited Colorado Nevada and California making etchings of Indians cowboys and major cities which were later published in a portfolio entitled "Under Western Skies." These proved to be very successful and the artist shortly thereafter moved to California permanently. Wall continued to produce many fine etchings of the American West and by 1930 had also become a much respected historian of the region.Bernhardt Wall was unique in that he not only drew the etchings for his books but he also printed and bound them. His books are in libraries and universities around the world including the British Museum Library of Congress the libraries of Harvard Yale Columbia and Brown Universities. His works were also in the private collections of J. P. Morgan Franklin D. Roosevelt Henry C. Frick and Dr. N.C. Mathewson. Wall etched three sitting presidents of the United States Theodore Roosevelt Warren Taft and Henry Coolidge. Other prominent individuals etched by Wall include Sam Houston Mark Twain Thomas A. Edison Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Jackson.Artist and historian Bernhardt Wall 1872-1956 was a pioneer etcher and producer of fine press books who treated a vast array of subjects including Texas and the Southwest. Historians of fine press printing have compared him to William Blake. This collection of Wall’s scrapbooks publications and correspondence was built by collector Natalie Williams of Marshall Texas. Inscribed by Bernhardt in French in the margin beneath the photograph and signed. Certificate of authenticity from "The Scriptorium" on the verso of frame. Some wear and scuffing to frame; photo with some creasing toning to margins tear to right edge affecting about 3" of the image; else very good. Stage and film actress Sarah Bernhardt 1844-1923 played Hamlet Joan of Arc and Cleopatra and was a true international icon. In a 2010 article on a Bernhardt biography for the Guardian Olivia Laing wrote "No one has ever grasped the art of eccentric showmanship like Sarah Bernhardt the foremost actress of her age who liked to accessorise with a dead bat never went on tour without her own coffin and once travelled round America accompanied by an alligator called Ali-Gaga who died sadly enough as a consequence of consuming too much milk and champagne. 10708Bernhardt John. Bernhardt John American 1921-1963. QUEENSBRIDGE. Color Woodcut 1965. Ttiled signed dated and annotated "To Smitty" in pencil. 17 3/4 x 28 inches. In very good condition. Bernhardt was educated at Columbia University and although he died young he was a successful and respected modernist printmaker and assemblage artist. His work is in the collections of the NY Public Library Boston Public Library Metropolitan Museum of Art Hartford Atheneum and other public collections. unknown
