First edition of this cheeky and satirical semi-autobiographical memoir by the superstar actress documenting her adventures in an escaped balloon over the L’Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1878 with her lover Clairin 1843-1919 who had painted the famed salon Portrait of Bernhard 1844-1923. Lured back in 1878 to the Comedie Francaise the brilliant star with a chancy temper had been requested by the balloon’s owner to make the maiden voyage ascent but a storm ripped it from its moorings and they eventually landed outside Paris. Subsequently she refused to pay the 100 Francs fine as she had left Paris without permission.
