The film stirred controversy for the graphic sex scene between the young Lisa Bonet and Rourke. Parker threatened with an X rating was forced to cut 10 seconds from the scene. At the time Bonet was best known for her role in "The Cosby Show." Generally considered the director's masterpiece and an essential supernatural horror film of the 1980s.
