Illustration mounted on front. 31cm. Vover illustration scuffed with some crease marks. Backstrip chipped at bottom and appears to have been reglued for four or five centimeters above above the chipping. Tape mark next to bottom of backstrip on both sides. Contents sound and clean. Johnson had great success as a lyricist early in the century but found chamged tastes when he attempted a return to song-writing in 1914. He did successfully translate the libretto for this opera which the Metropolitan Opera performed in 1916. Granados the Spanish Romantic composer of the piano pieces from which this opera was adapted attended the premiere but drowned in the English channel upon his return to Europe when a German submarine torpedoed the boat on which Granados was travelling. The libretto appears throughout the music in this edition with Granados's Spanish text immediately above Johnson's English translation. The libretto was also published separately by Schirmer in 1915 as a smaller-format 42-page pamphlet in their series of opera-librettos with Granados's Spanish text and Johnson's English translation appearing side by side in separate columns. We don't know whether either version has publishing priority but both are quite uncommon. G. Schirmer paperback

Light wear and toning to wrapper margins chiefly at spine foot front wrapper separating from metal binding clasp and first leaf slightly askew uneven toning to textblock; overall Very Good and sound.<br /> <br /> Stage script for an adaptation of Joan Didion's 1970 novel which had already been adapted into film in 1972. This adaptation for the stage was presumably written later in the 1970s when Ember's career started to take off after writing the Broadway adaptation of It's a Wonderful Life in 1976 and directing a revival of Death of a Salesman in 1977. <br /> <br /> While we haven't found contemporary press Ember shared with us that the production -- featuring a white box set heavy use of projectors costumes all in white for easy projection etc. -- was staged in Manhattan.<br /> No copies in the trade or OCLC as of September 2025. The mission of the RSV committee was to offer a translation of the King James Bible that would match the accuracy of the 1885 RV / 1901 ASV yet without sacrificing the linguistic immediacy which they neglected in their word-for-word approach. The extent to which they succeeded in this is reflected in the widespread adoption of the RSV in liturgical settings as manifested in this Parish edition. 'The aim has been to present a version easy to read aloud in public worship and not hard for hearers to understand . The photographs numbered on the versos in manuscript pencil detail costumes for starring actors Marina Vlady and Jean Marais an exhibit of film stills and costume designs at a bookshop called "Lavocat" costumes displayed at tge shop "Delvaux" and the ephemera consists of a press packet detailing film credits and biographies an invitation for two to the premiere on March 26 at the Marivaux cinema a small slip with annotations in manuscript ink and a carbon typescript from Maryse Martres to "Madame Armon" at Delvaux regarding the costumes. Housed in a large manila folder. <br /> <br /> Based de La Fayette's 1678 anonymously published novel France's first historical novel widely regarded as an early psychological novel. The Princess marries a much older prince Marais but yearns for a handsome duke Poron. Her fidelity eventually coming into question. Marais also starred in Delannoy's and Cocteau's other collaboration "Love Eternal" 1943. Delannoy directed over 50 films at first well-regarded dissipating at the end of his career with several B-grade films. Costuming for the film was produced by Pierre Cardin and Marcel Escoffier both also worked together on "Beauty and the Beast" 1946 and "Fernandel the Dressmaker" 1956. <br /> <br /> Martres Martin was a prolific French actress since 1948 notably "Girl on the Third Floor" 1955 and "The Happy Road" 1957 and she was later involved in press relations at Cinedis a notable film agency in operation since the Silent Film era. Kishi was born in 1932 and became a Japanese actress and writer. She married director Ciampi in 1957. Since 1996 she has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund UNFPA. The Delvaux shop has been producing leather goods mostly handbags since the 19th century with central locations in Belgium. <br /> <br /> Photos range from 6.75 x 9 inches to 7.25 x 10.5 inches. Ephemera ranges from 3.5 x 4.75 inches to 8 x 10.5 inches. Very Good plus overall with scattered creases and toning. Cinedis unknown

Very light sunning to spines of slipcases with a small dark label ghost on upper corner of each case. Some toning to top edge of cases with some light splash marks on side of the case for the fifth volume. Some very light soil and faint toning to wrappers of each volume. Some creasing to spines. Interiors are clean and unmarked. Bindings all sound. A beautiful set with color illustrations and old and modern French side by side in the original publisher's wrappers.
