1st edition. Original paper wrappers. 8vo. 14 pages, 24 cm. In Yiddish. Title translates to Jewish Wit and Humor. Rabbi Avida (18871962) was a prominent communal worker, rabbi, and writer. During World War I he was held hostage by the local Russian commander against possible spy activities by members of his community. He was a founder (1917) and general secretary of Mizrachi in Poland until 1920. Ordained in 1910, he was appointed rabbi of the city of Gabin (Gombin) , Poland (191119) . In 1920 he went to Canada and successively held positions as Jewish National Fund director for Canada, director of Montreal Hebrew schools, and rabbi in Vancouver (EJ, 2007) . L'opera è dedicata a Giulio Cesare Colonna, duca di Bassanello. Commedia erudita e "capricciosa" che, in pieno clima arcadico, inventa un fantasioso quanto curioso intreccio tra le nove Muse e i maggiori poeti italiani di tutti i tempi, dai classici ai toscani contemporanei, in una sorta di affascinante galleria poetica. Si incontrano nell'arco di cinque atti, Boezio, Orazio, Seneca, Ovidio, Virgilio, Catullo, Dante, Petrarca, Boccaccio, Marino, Tasso, Lorenzo il Magnifico, l'Aretino, e alcune poetesse; ogni scrittore incarna un personaggio comico, tipico delle commedie latine, mantenendo nei dialoghi il proprio stile e linguaggio caratteristico, con un risultato al tempo stesso divertente e dotto per il fatto di offrire un excursus sull'evoluzione della lingua italiana. Ovviamente "la favola si finge in Parnaso". Questa satira letteraria ebbe un certo successo e fu più volte ristampata. Riccio era di Perugia.
