Bordas rompt son contrat avec Beckett et l'auteur signe alors avec les ditions de Minuit qui rachtent le stock d'invendus et rhabilleront l'ouvrage de la couverture de la collection blanche.

The editor Gilbert Abbot à Beckett 1811-1856 was a British humorist and editor of the Figaro in London and one of the original staff members at Punch. The illustrations of British caricaturist George Cruikshank 1792-1878 are exuberant and often irreverent. Although society language and styles change human nature remains the same and the humor in this volume is relevant today. The binder Joseph Zaehnsdorf 1816-1886 was originally from Austria-Hungary. After apprenticeships in Germany Vienna and Paris he relocated to London. His bindings received awards at international exhibitions including the London International Exhibition of 1862.
