Until in the closing years of the century it came to the handle of Death's Door and imported a manager from abroad . Between 1998 and 2001 SAA made up for lost time in the scandal stakes. The name 'South African Airways' acquired a Siamese twin in the name 'Coleman Andrews' its new chief executive. For three years SAA/Andrews was/were constant headlines with the flavour oscillating between halo and forked tail at a bewildering rate. SAA was being miraculously rescued! No it was being brutally murdered! By September 2001 debate had progressed to unity: we wuz robbed. The foreigner was an overpaid scoundrel who ran our airline into the ground stole its money and scuttled abroad to escape our righteous wrath.
