1883282915Philadelphia: Robert Faires & Rodgers 1883. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good binding. The true First Edition printing not to be confused with the McManus imprint nearly 20 years later. This copy from the personal library of Civil War historian James I. Robertson and has his bookplate on the pastedown. In reviewing the book in the Nevins bibliography Bud Robertson calls it "another good compilation of personal accounts" Nevins I 174. Coulter notes that this regimental history includes "an account of the battles of Gettysburg and Petersburg . along with Ball's Bluff McClellan's Peninsula campaign Sharpsburg Fredericksburg Chancellorsville and conflicts between Grant and Lee up to July 1864 when Ward was mustered out" Coulter 463. In the publisher's red cloth binding with wear at the spine resulting in the loss of most of the titling; boards stamped in black with titling in gilt. Nevins I 174; Coulter 463. Very Good binding. 1920141148New York: Grosset and Dunlap 1920. First Photoplay Edition. Photo-illustrated with stills from the film.

Based on the 1920 silent film directed by D.W. Griffith and starring Lillian Gish in turn based on the 1898 play by Charlotte Blair Parker. Although the play was filmed twice previously in 1908 and 1914 and once subsequently in a Gary Cooper starring 1935 sound film Griffith's version stands out due the inclusion of a bravura set piece where star Gish flees across an icy river a sequence done without the aid of stunt people or special effects.

Very Good in a Very Good dust jacket. Boards lightly spotted. Jacket spine lightly toned with light chipping to the extremities. Grosset and Dunlap unknown books
