Maxims published in French as Réflexions; ou sentences et maximes morales is the best-known work of François duc de La Rochefoucauld 1613-1680 first published anonymously in 1665 and revised through several editions during the author's lifetime with the 1678 fifth edition generally representing his final authorized text.
