' A short, detailed compilation of historical sources concerning Hannukah, written by the German-Jewish pedagogue Eliezer L. Ehrmann; the Judische Lesehefte of Schocken Verlag published a number of his short pedagogical treatises on Pesach, Schavuot, and Chanukka; these were issued in conjunction with Ehrmann's work with and publications by the Reich Association of Jews in Germany, from 1936-1938. Ehrmann was able to get out of Germany, and worked as a Hebrew teacher at the College of Jewish Studies and was on the board of the Board of Jewish Education of Chicago. A recent compilation of all of Ehrmann's texts on German-Jewish Religious education published in the mid 1930's was recently issued as 'Von Trauer zur Freude: Leitfäden und Texte zu den jüdischen Festen'. Joel Entein (18751959) , was a Yiddish editor, educator, and translator. Entin was born in Pohost, Russia, where he received a traditional religious and secular education. He became active in Hibbat Zion and in 1890 moved to Moscow to work for Bnei Zion. He arrived in New York in 1891 where he audited classes at Columbia University. Hyman Ehrlich (19081981) wrote children's verses, satirical works; his later volumes were devoted to more somber themes. The publisher, Kayor, was established in 1949, and in collaboration with the Di Dorem Afrikaner Yiddishe Kultur Federatzie inaugurated the most productive era in local Yiddish publishing. South Africa became an important center of Yiddish creativity. From 1949 to 1962, Kayor, in association with the Kultur Federatzie, published six collections of essays and short stories, six volumes of poetry and one novel, together with all the journalism and most of the Yiddish and Hebrew occasional publications in South Africa.
