1895355490718059London: Sampson Low 1895. First Edition. Hard Cover. London: Sampson Low Marston & Company Limited 1895. First UK Edition and likely the first hardbound edition in English. With Illustrations all present. Original pictorial light green cloth all edges gilt. Published in November 1895 by Sampson Low. A tale of buried treasure. The pictorial front board cover shows a pinioned and gagged Tyrcomel on the back of whose left shoulder is tattooed the long-sought direction 77'19'N. A contemporary Christmas gift inscription on the verso of the frontispiece a partially cracked front hinge a common fault with this book a small area of loss measuring approx.1" by 2" from the paste-down side of the front end-paper where it appears a bookseller's ticket has been removed. At the rear of the book the rear free end-paper is missing. There is slight pushing at the spine tips and the spine is a hint faded. A very uncommon book and priced to reflect the missing rear free end-paper easily replaceable by a skilled book-binder if matching patterned floral paper stock could be found. One of Verne's more sellable titles in our experience. Photographs/scans available upon request. Sampson Low hardcover
