Charles Lamb (1775-1834) was an English essayist, best known for his Essays of Elia and for the children's book 'Tales from Shakespeare' which he produced with his sister, Mary Lamb (1764-1847). Lamb has been referred to by E.V. Lucas, his principal biographer, as the most lovable figure in English literature. His influence on the English essay form cannot be overestimated. LIT BX 8
This spine edge of this book's red cloth covers appear to have been wet at one point and so the cover has a darker red stain on the edge and the ink from the cover has transferred the back of the dust jacket which shows wear and tears.
