XI et 288 pages. Très agréable recueil de contes postérieurs au Pantcha-Tantra. Il est divisé en quatre livres, sous les titres de l'Acquisition des Amis, la Désunion des Amis, La Guerre et la Paix, et chacun d'eux se compose d'un apologue principal, dans lequel sont enchâssés d'autres apologues récités par les personnages en action. La traduction a été faite sur la comparaison du texte original des différentes éditions, et elle est suvie (p. 213-56) d'un appendice contenant l'indication des sources et des imitations, ainsi que d'un glossaire alphabétique des noms propres et des termes relatifs à la mythologie, à l'histoire naturelle et aux usages de l'Inde. Bel exemplaire.
