Two pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. Original hardback binding front board only paper covered board with significant remains of original printed paper adhered to board roan leather to the spine with gilt now craked in several places and areas missing. This item requires rebinding or to be placed in a solander box since it is now held only by the cords in several parts. Contents clean and tight minimal marking paper bright with no foxing neat ink signature to the top of the front free endpaper. A very good copy of this rare collection of tales. Illustrated with eight full page colour plates and 60 black and white drawings throughout the text by Arthur Rackham. A near fine copy the binding square and firm with a little softening at the spine tips the cloth bright and fresh. The contents with a charming gift inscription the the front blank "With much love to Ratty / from Toady / Christmas 1933" and minor spotting to the endpapers and the odd page margin are otherwise clean throughout. The text block edges are a little spotted. Complete with the very good rubbed and nicked price-clipped dustwrapper that has several closed tears and small chips at the spine tips and fold corners not affecting the text or illustrations. An attractive example.
