The deluxe edition in red cardboard slipcase; issued without dust jacket. 114 pp. Charming collection of Perrault's fairy tales originally from 17th century France 1697 and first published in English in 1726 with translation by Bierhorst. The title tale is a version of "Cinderella'. Familiar stories "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Sleeping Beauty" are included though the endings are different that more modern versions as well as odder tales like "Bluebeard" . These early French tales are much more like the later Grimm's tales than Andersen's with the touch of gruesomeness intended to keep readers and listeners on the straight and narrow. He obviously put a lot of effort into completely decorating these popular fairy tales in his best decorative style.<br /> <br /> An uncommonly bright copy with untouched gilt decoration on the cover. The spine is very slightly faded with very minor wear at the top and bottom and on the book's tips. One of the color plates has a minor crease at the bottom margin not even near the artwork.
