This volume is decorated and illustrated by Italian printmaker and illustrator Valenti Angelo 1897-1982 who created stunning linocuts of the American Southwest as well as book illustrations for the Grabhorn Press in San Francisco. Angelo's illustrations accompany the gentle humour of the stories and showcase his delicate and detailed style of drawing.<br/><br/>___DESCRIPTION: Full blue paper with concentric black and cream rectangles surrounding a small illustration on both boards black lettering on the spine top edge stained blue fore- and bottom edges uncut a few signatures throughout unopened title page with a two-colour illustration by Valenti Angelo blue decorative running borders throughout eleven two-colour illustrations by Angelo throughout; Electra type Coronet paper duodecimo size 7.5" by 5.75" pagination: 1-6 7-69 1 colophon one of 1450 copies unnumbered. In a slipcase covered with glossy black paper.<br/><br/>___CONDITION: Volume is near fine with straight corners without rubbing a strong square text block with solid hinges the interior is clean and bright and entirely free of prior owner markings; some overall dustiness to the boards and sunning to the spine light rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and some off-setting to the page opposite the title page else fine. The slipcase is very good strong and sturdy clean overall; some rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and to the corners of the opening and the boards at the top and bottom of the opening are beginning to split.
