Edition originale très rare. La 3ème section de l'ouvrage, sur la syntaxe, comprend de nombreux exemples tels que maximes, fables, chants de guerre, chants satiriques, notions sur le calendrier des Woloffs.
In 8° (cm. 15,5), legatura in cartone rustico coevo; cc. 104 numerate solo al recto, compreso il frontespizio, su cui è presente una grande marca tipogr. in xilografia, colla gatta accovacciata in cornice, usata da Melchiorre Sessa il vecchio. Al verso del front. l'Autore ha fatto stampare queste parole: "Alla correttion di questo libro ognihuom s'attenga: & non ad altra né scritta né stampata. Io Rin. Corso". Gamba (n. 1337) ritiene che questa scritta sia stata impressa per disapprovare l'edizione antecedente in 8° per Comin da Trino. Antico restauro all'angolo sup. bianco del front., altrimenti fresco esemplare impresso in nitido ed elegante carattere corsivo. Edizione rara, solo sette esemplari nelle biblioteche italiane. Edit16 CNCE 13991. Manca ad Olschki choix, Adams, BMSTC Italian, che citano altre edizioni.
In-folio (cm. 30), cc. (82) di cui l'ultima bianca, 1436 (num. per colonne) + cc. (15) contenente l'ancora aldina sulla prima e l'ultima di queste. Legatura del tempo in piena pergamena con titolo manoscritto al dorso. Esemplare con qualche traccia d'uso ai bordi del frontespizio, una gora chiara all'angolo alto delle carte (queste leggermente increspate). Complessivamente genuino ed in discreto stato di conservazione. Si tratta della terza edizione aldina di quest'opera apparsa per la prima volta prsso Aldo nel 1499, poi nel 1513. Cfr. Renouard, p. 103.
Cm. 36, pp. (8) + colonne 1790, cc. 121 + pp. 365. Frontespizio in rosso e nero con marchio tipografico in xilografia. Solida ed elegante legatura (d'inizio Ottocento?) in piena pelle interamente decorata, dorso a nervi con titoli e ricchi fregi. Poche tracce d'uso. Esemplare genuino e ben conservato, impreziosito da una legatura assai decorativa. Si tratta dell'edizione più ricercata di questo classico nell'ambito della linguistica antica pubblicato in originale nel 1580. Le ultime 365 pagine contengono il testo dello Zwinger: Graecarum dialectorum Hypotyposis". Cfr. Brunet (V, 181); "Èdition trés bien exécutée et qui a eté lontemps la meilleure que l'on eut de ce Dictionnaire".
Due volumi di cm. 29,5, pp. (4) 484 + (2) d'errata; pp. 416, 62 + (2) d'errata. Con illustrazioni nel testo e 5 tavole f.t. incise in rame. Solida legatura del tempo in piena pelle, dorsi lisci con fregi e titoli in oro su doppi tasselli. Come riscontrato in altri esemplari, il secondo volume è stampato su carta azzurra. Esemplare fresco, genuino ed in eccellente stato di conservazione. Esemplare appartenuto al celebre scrittore di storia portoghese Prospero Peragallo (1823-1916) di cui appare ai frontespizi la firma di possesso ed alle carte di guardia alcune note sull'opera: "Rarissimo in commercio e molto ricercata questa edizione. Mi costò in un incanto in Lisbona 10.000 Rey...".

4to, title (slightly foxed) and following leaf "to the Reader" a little frayed on outer corners but not touching the text, [4], 96, 87-102, 101-172 pp., contemporary calf, covers detached. John Skene's dictionary, published in 1597, was the first Scottish attempt to define the language of the law. In his opening statement to the reader he modestly admitted his errors and ignorance, and complained that his subject was "one mater nought pleasand in itselfe, nor treated be others of before."*****The dictionary is dense and verbosely worded, and with its arcane spellings and inconsistently formed sentences, it makes some definitions nearly unreadable. He defined many words that are now completely obsolete, of Latin or French origin, giving brief etymological information.****Despite these kinds of archaic forms, many definitions still very clearly describe the meanings of important words and concepts. The dictionary did in fact prompt other Scottish writers to improve upon it, as Skene wished. Skene's dictionary was an invaluable contribution to the literature of Scotland and Scottish law. In-folio (cm. 34), pp. (2) 2246 (numerazione per colonne) (2). Bel frontespizio arricchito da una ricca cornice figurata, capolettera istoriati nel testo. Solida legatura del tempo in piena pergamena rigida, dorso a nervi con titoli manoscritti. Frontespizio un po' brunito, una gora chiara all'angolo basso delle prime carte, prima sguardia mancante, peraltro esemplare genuino e ben conservato. Rara edizione cinquecentesca di questo celebre dizionario ampliato e ristampato nel corso di 300 anni.
Cm. 29, cc. 623. Marchio tipografico al frontespizio e belle iniziali ornate. Legatura ottocentesca in mezza pelle e cart. rigido con titoli su tassello al dorso ed al piatto. Esemplare genuino ma con macchiette sparse e qualche abile rinforzo alle prime ed ultime carte. Manca l'ultima carta, sicuramente bianca (cfr. Iccu). Edizione non comune.

This is the 2nd and most thorough edition of Minsheu's polyglot dictionary with "The Reasons and Derivations of all or the most part of words" in English, Dutch, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, along with historical explanations and usage samples. This edition includes proper names "of the Bible...Countries, Cities, Townes, Hilles, Rivers, Flouds, Promontaries, Ports, Creekes, Islands, Seas, Men, Women, Gods, Peoples, and other things of note" as well as an "Exposition of the Termes of the Lawes of this Land...with the description of the Magistracies, Offices and Officers" which was evidently aiming for the growing market in legal texts. The work serves for scholars today as s a dictionary of day to day English at the start of the 17th Century, and is of immense help in understanding the speech in the works of Johnson and Shakespeare. We also learn here that the word 'nicotine' is from Jean Nicot who in 1560 brought tobacco to France. Lowndes IV 1570: "Minsheu's guide is a very important work and has furnished great assistance to subsequent lexicographers. Todd...This edition is by some prefered for its additions and corrections."
