The trial of Madame Euphemie Lacoste b. 1819 whose family forced her to marry her 68-year-old great uncle Henri Lacoste in 1841. When he died suddenly and his body was found to contain arsenic she was arrested and tried for murder along with 70-year-old schoolmaster Joseph Meilhan to whom she had given a minor pension. They were acquitted because of insufficient evidence the traces of arsenic in Lacoste's blood may have been due to treatment for syphilis. Very scarce. In Very Good Condition: light foxing on half title page; otherwise clean and solid. Pagnerre unknown
