Inm Groysen Tumel (In a Great Upheaval) , Yiddish translation of Aage Madelungs Love One Another, a novel about the attempted Russian revolution of 1905; published in Warsaw by A. Gitlin. Aage Madelung (1872-1949) was a recognized and acclaimed Danish writer of his time. He was particularly known for Elsker Hverandre (Love One Another) from 1913, a novel which became an international bestseller and caught the attention of Knut Hamsun, as well as being adapted to film by Carl Th. Dreyer in 1922. The son of Danish parents, who were immigrants from Germany and Norway, Madelung grew up in Sweden and spent 17 years in Russia, working as a salesman, reporting as a correspondent for the Berliner Tageblatt on the Eastern Front during World War I and joining the modernist milieu around the literary journal Vesy, to which he contributed texts in Russian, including a review of Herman Bangs Mikäel. He also spent long periods in various other Central and Eastern European countries, before he finally settled in Denmark in the 1920s with his Russian-Jewish wife. With a new preface by Leeser, and including Leeser's original preface (preface to the 1st edition) and, of course, his additions and changes of the preceding 37 years. A work primarily directed at American Jewish juvenile of the early and mid 19th Century. "Leeser's career as a translator also began in Philadelphia in 1830 with the publication of his rendering from German of J. Johlson's Instruction in the Mosaic Religion. Leeser, as part of his ongoing efforts to contribute to the development of Jewish education and culture in America, translated a number of important works into English from German, Spanish, French and Hebrew." (University of Pennsylvania). "Leeser brought with him to Philadelphia his translation of J. Johlson's Instruction in the Mosaic Religion. He had it published there in 1830, appropriately dedicated to his uncle Zalman Rehine. The book is a catechism published in Germany and translated and adapted by Leeser for 'the instruction of the younger...of Israelites of both sexes, who have previously acquired some knowledge of the fundamental part...of their religion.' Leeser undertook its publication because there was a great scarcity of elementary textbooks for Jewish children. It is significant that this Instruction in the Mosaic Religion, Leeser's first issued work, is a textbook of religious instruction for the young, for though Leeser attained distinction as an author, translator, editor, and a national leader of the American Jewish community, he considered himself, first and foremost, an educator." Shalom-Shmuel Schwarzbard (1886-1938) was a Russian-born French Yiddish poet of Jewish descent. He served in the French and Soviet military, was a bolshevik, and is known for his assassination of the Ukrainian national leader Symon Petliura while in Paris. His trial was highly publicized and he claimed to have killed Petliura in retribution for the pogroms in Ukraine. He was eventually acquitted (Wikipedia, 2018) . As an editor and publisher, Scheiber took particular interest in Jewish sacred folklore, the history of Hungarian Jewry, and the connections between Hungarian folklore and world literature. He wrote significant works on János Arany and Kálmán Mikszáth, and kept a diary, written in the form of letters to his brother. After 1933, he published as many as 1, 600 works; one of the most important is his Geniza Studies (1981) , summarizing the results of 40 years of research.
