He was sentenced to death for poisoning and sodomy but later reprieved on appeal. </em> unknown

The green paper backing is separated from the thin paper. <br /> <br /> This order was given by Lieut. Col. Kellogg and signed by Lieut. Col. Plummer. General Order No. 10 reads The garrison of this post has been ordered to other stations. Before the severance of ties which will always be a pleasing memory to him. The commanding Officer wishes to thank officers and men for the cordial support and assistance which they have given him. In thirty-seven years he has never been associated with better soldiers or more agreeable comrades. It seems probable that our country will soon require our services on the field of battle. The flag which we love - the flag carried to victory on many fields by Americans - by our fathers - will be as bravely borne by you and your grateful countrymen will honor your patriotism and devotion to duty. By order of Lieut. Col. Kellogg Signed E. H. Plummer 1st. Lieut. 10th. Infantry Adjutant." <br /> <br /> On a historical note the Commanding Officer General Nelson Miles sent a telegram to Lt. Col. Kellogg now at Rush Springs. Kellogg sent Capt. W. CF. Brown & his troop of the first Cavalry back to Fort Sill to quell a suspected uprising by Geronimo & the Apaches. Geronimo is recorded saying "I am a U.S. soldier. I wear the uniform and it makes my heart sore to be thus suspected." All was calm in a week. Testimony of Capt. Edward Hinkley Plummer. 1900208Manila 1900. Very good. Typed letter signed 1p. Typed on thin paper. Folded. A true copy of a typed letter by Gen. J.F. Bell that recommends Sgt. Maj. George J. Oden of the 36th Volunteer Infantry for a Certificate of Merit for gallantry during an engagement with Insurgents native Filipinos who rebelled against American rule after Spain ceded the islands to the United States in the mountains near Mangaterem on November 28 1899 during the Spanish-American War. According to the text of the letter "When the attack was finally made he tore down the mountain side at the head of a half dozen men into the midst of a large number of Insurgents shooting right and left and displaying great fearlessness and gallantry. He was foremost of all and seemingly tireless flew down the rough trail finally winding up at the bottom chasing all he could see alone. His enthusiasm and unconscious fearlessness was something pleasant to see." Certified as a true copy of the letter by a Buffalo Soldier a First Lieutenant in the 10th U.S. Cavalry. unknown books

ÉDITION ORIGINALE ? : on trouve parfois la mention d’une édition parue en 1845 (in content.library.pdx.edu), il semble que celle de 1847 soit bien l’E.O. ; une « segunda edicion » paraîtra la même année , chez le même éditeur, même pagination, page de titre refaite. LES « ACTEURS » : à tout saigneur, tout honneur. Pedro (Burgos, 1334-Montiel, 1369) était le seul fils légitime d’Alphonse XI, Le Juste (Salamanca, 1311-Gibraltar, 1350), et de Marie –Constance (1313-Evora, 1357), fille d’Alphonse IV de Portugal. Ce mariage politique et forcé n’était pas heureux ; le gendre prit pour maîtresse Leonor de Guzman (Séville, 1310-Talavera de la Reina, 1351), jeune et jolie veuve , qui lui donna une ribambelle de bambins, dont Henri, comte de Trastamare (Séville, 1334- Santo Domingo de la Calzada, 1379). On ne faisait pas de vieux os dans la Sagrada Familia : 1350, Alphonse XI meurt de la peste à Gibraltar ; 1351, Léonor est torturée et assassinée grâce à Pedro ; 1357, La Reine Marie-Constance, assassinée, au choix, sur ordre de Pedro ? ou sur ordre de son propre père le roi du Portugal ? ; 1361, la Reine Blanche est assassinée sur ordre de son mari; 1369, Pedro, assassiné par son demi-frère Henri, qui devient illico roi de Castille ; surnommé « Le Magnifique », parfois « Le fratricide » ... qui finira empoisonné en 1379. . C’est la souche de la lignée royale des Trastamare, dans laquelle figureront Henri III « Le Maladif », puis Henri IV « L’Impuissant » qui ne fut pas roi de France…

Bookplate of A.J. Cox to front pastedown. <br /> <br /> Really a nicely executed and elaborate binding of this text which relates some of the events leading up to the Spanish American War of 1898. Alfred J. Cox was a Chicago master book binder and collector and we would guess this book from a Chicago publisher was perhaps bound by Cox himself. It is listed in Catalogue of the Sumptuous 'Attic' Library of the late Alfred J.Cox which was sold at auction by the American Art Association in New York 1918. This title along with several others from the series by Latimer are listed as bound in full levant morocco in various colors #608. A nice example of American fine binding at the turn of the century. Bindings present quite well despite some minor abrasions to the leather and a chipped head of the spine to the first volume; contents are heavily foxed and toned throughout; early 20th century owner name in pencil on half titles early owner's wax stamp monogram on each title page. <br /> <br /> Manual of diplomatic customs procedures and formulas apparently published for the market in newly independent Latin America where diplomatic relations with foreign powers were just beginning. This may well have been the standard manual for Latin America's first ambassadors and consuls in Europe. The two of three volumes present cover such diverse topics as diplomatic missions secret missions types of diplomatic agents credentials public behavior prerogatives e.g. immunity ceremonies length and ending of missions correspondence acts of abdication declarations of war and many other matters.
