Joseph Grego provides an entertaining account of electioneering between the 17th and 19th centuries in this heavily illustrated volume Joseph Grego offers a rich and entertaining history of the rise progress and development of the art of electioneering. After providing a synopsis of parliamentary history Grego chronologically recounts the salient features of the most remarkable elections that took place between the 17th and 19th centuries. With 92 Illustrations half of which are full plates the fourteen chapters are interspersed with satires caricatures lampoons and political squibs from contemporaneous electoral struggles. With forty three plates and numerous in text illustrations from political squibs lampoons satires and caricatures. The second edition of this work. In a quarter calf binding over decorated maroon cloth. Externally generally smart with some light wear to the extremities and some discolouration of the spine. Front hinge starting but firm.
