La ricerca sociofonetica applicata all'intonazione costituisce un terreno d'indagine pressoché vergine in ambito nazionale, sia dal punto di vista della produzione che, tanto più, da quello della percezione. Lo studio qui presentato si pone l'obiettivo di coniugare entrambe le prospettive, al fine di rispondere ad una serie di domande dalle quali è scaturita la ricerca in oggetto: l'intonazione è una variabile sociolinguistica? Se sì, quali sono i correlati acustici responsabili delle informazioni di tipo geografico e sociale? Attraverso l'analisi delle produzioni di un campione differenziato in base a diverse dimensioni di variazione, ed una serie di test percettivi, il volume propone da un lato la descrizione del continuum geoprosodico di alcune varietà dell'Emilia Romagna, e mostra, dall'altro, come l'intonazione regionale dell'italiano possa costituire una marca identitaria e un indicatore sociale nella comunità linguistica di Parma.
