Sabin 72016 First American edition. Robertson was appointed Mexican commissioner in 1848. He journeyed with his daughter from Southampton to Bermuda on the Avon and then to the Yucatan Peninsular on the Forth. Written in the form of a journal the book includes both details of everyday life on board ship and dramatic events such as shipwreck. Both father and daughter contributed to the book which gives an interesting perspective on Robertson's sojourn in Mexico. The book provides information on the country's mines politics and mores as well as anecdotes of the Yucatan and West Indies.
