Ma non a questo hanno pensato gli autori: non al destino ultimo degli studi classici, ma ai prossimi anni di impegno culturale, civile e di studio di Maurizio Bettini, classicista e antropologo, da sempre in prima linea nella battaglia su questi temi. Español de origen, recibió una educación liberal en España, y en la época en que publicó su gramática (1812) ya llevaba varios años de residencia en Inglaterra, país con cuya lengua se sentía familiarizado. Durante estos años se empleó como traductor y como profesor privado de francés, inglés y español, ocupación frecuente entre los emigrados españoles en Londres.
