Le collezioni Libri e Barrois, composte da materiali trafugati dalle biblioteche francesi, furono poi recuperate dalla Bibliothèque Nationale di Parigi; una parte del fondo Libri fu acquistata dalla Laur. di Firenze. La raccolta Stowe passò al British Mus. di Londra nel 1883, mentre il materiale irlandese contenutovi fu depositato presso la Royal Irish Acad. di Dublino" (Treccani)

Importante studio di paleografia tratto sulle iscrizioni lapidari della fine del periodo Merovingio sino agl'ultini anni del XII° secolo. Appendice finale formata dalla tavola delle forme paleografiche più caratteristiche. In bello stato, mirabilmente restaurato, molto interessante.

Lavorando al progetto del Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum licenziò diversi volumi. Dessau è noto soprattutto per la Inscriptiones Latinae Selectae (ILS) una sua selezione di circa 10 000 iscrizioni latine (1892-1916), indicata a volte con Dessau o abbreviata con D. Tra i curatori della Prosopographia Imperii Romani della stessa Accademia prussiana. Studioso della "Historia Augusta", pubblicò nel 1889 il fondamentale saggio Sull'epoca e la personalità degli scrittori Historiae Augustae (1889). Redasse circa 600 articoli specialistici sulla enciclopedia Pauly-Wissowa. Ebreo, non ottenne mai la docenza ordinaria, ma solo quella onoraria. Book has minor rubbing to extremities. ; Aramaic Documents published here for the first time came from an unknown site in Egypt and consist of 13 or 14 more or less complete letters and the fragments of others from the Archives of Arsham, satrap of Egypt in the time of Darius II, and may be dated c. 410 B. C. They deal with the administrative problems confronting the satrap's subordinate officers, and with those arising from the relations of these officers with the native population, especially in the matter of their fiefs; one is concerned with the making of an equestrian statue for the writer, one is a letter of thanks for the safe transport of certain goods for personal use, and one is a safe-conduct for a Persian officer proceeding by way of Syria to Egypt.
