DJ has minor shelfwear. ; 288 pages; This remains the major book on Aeschylus' Supplices, its dating and the trilogy to which it belonged. Its first appearance, in 1969, was a response to the publication of a papyrus fragment from Oxyrhynchus in Egypt, which indicated a late production date (the 460s BC) for Aeschylus' play. This upset the previous consensus that it was the earliest Greek tragedy to survive: there was, Garvie argued, no longer good reason to suppose that the play belonged to an early stage in its author's development. The book also examines the evidence for reconstruction of the other, lost plays of the trilogy. Garvie remains convinced that, even without the additional testimony of the papyrus, all the internal from the text of the play points to the 460s, though some have tried to pull it back to the 470s because it feels like an early play. Some of the salutary lessons to be drawn from the discovery of the papyrus have still to be learnt.

Bellissime ed eleganti legature coeve in tutta pelle chiara spugnata con titoli, numero dei volumi e ricchi fregi in oro al dorso e iniziali dell'antico proprietario impresse in oro al piatto anteriore di ogni volume. Tagli riccamente spruzzati in azzurro. Al recto della prima carta entro bella cornice xilografica la scritta sempre a stampa "Del Rettore D. Molina". Opera stampata a Vercelli dalla curatissima veste grafica. Seconda edizione, non comune quanto la prima del 1777, di questo celebre scritto del celebre storico napoletano Alessio Aurelio Pelliccia. L'autore fu a lungo insegnante presso l'ateneo partenopeo prima insegnando Diplomatica e Paleografia poi (tra i suoi studenti ebbe anche Michele Baffi). Nell'opera qui presentata l'autore analizza la storia della chiesa cristiana delle origini analizzando la struttura politica, amministrativa cattolica ma anche l'origine dei suoi rituali arrivando così attraverso la ricostruzione delle testimonianze storico-archeologiche alla struttura della Chiesa romana all'epoca di Pelliccia. L'opera è particolarmente apprezzata per i numerosi riferimenti paleografici ed in essa si trovano alcune delle prime interpretazioni delle delle inscrizioni presenti nelle Catacombe di San Gennaro come il celebre "Il Monumento a Priapo nelle Catacombe di San Gennaro poi studiato in seguito da Giuseppe Morelli proprio partendo dagli studi di Pelliccia. Basilare opera per la storia della Chiesa Cattolica. Ottimo esemplare in bella legatura coeva. Raro.
