20230067USA, DC Comics/Vertigo, 2023. Tall and heavy hardcover, in-folio book. 32 x 21 cm, 384 pp. Signed by David Lloyd on title page, with a sketch of V on blue pencil alongside signature. With dust jacket, a black silk signet and a slipcase nicely housing the book. "Alan Moore and David Lloyd's powerful epic about loss of freedom and individuality gets the Absolute treatment! Taking place in a totalitarian England following a devastating war that changed the face of the planet, V FOR VENDETTA was the inspiration for the hit 2005 movie starring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving. This amazing graphic novel spotlights a mysterious man in a white porcelain mask and his young protégé as they fight political oppressors through terrorism and seemingly absurd acts. It's a gripping tale of the blurred lines between ideological good and evil and details a world where political and personal freedoms are non-existent."

19760185London, Dialogue Publications Ltd, 1976. in English. Rare 70s publication about the Amazon rainforest, few copies printed. "This is the tenth of a series of papers prepared by the Brazilian Embassy" after a few on the Brazilian development model, inflation control and economic growth, foreign policy, etc. A tall in-4 softcover booklet of 297 x 212 mm. 35 pp. Twelve chapters, many black-and-white pictures, colored maps of Brazil and the Amazon region. List of chapters: The World of the Amazon, the People of the Amazon, the Traditional Economy of Amazonia, the First seven years of the SUDAM project, the New Development Strategy of Polamazonia, the Free Zone of Manaus, the Amazonian Bank of BASA, Agriculture in Amazonia, New Roads in Amazonia, Modern Man in Amazonia, The Traveller in Amazonia and Science and the Amazon. "When the Brazilian Government launched 'Operation Amazonia' in 1966, it rekindled the country's concern for this vast region of forest and river. For most Brazilians, interest in Amazonia had faded since th collapse of the rubber boom and extravagant life that went with it in the early years of this century. But in the past ten years there has been a radical and continuing change in Amazonia's fortunes, the impact of which is already being felt. Today it is not only Brazilians who are interested in Amazonia. The Brazilian Embassy in London receives more requests for information about the region than about any other in the country. The booklet contains as much basic and up to date information on Amazonia as possible: it is intended to serve as a guide for those who are already acquainted with the region's resources and potentialities." This booklet is now almost impossible to find aside from a few higher learning libraries. Issued by a sovereign, developing country, while the rainforest was garnering interest yet had no political stakes as it does today.
20090271New Brunswick (NJ), Transaction Publishers, 2009. First edition. Octavo, 235 x 160 mm, (xiii) 265 pp. Hardcover with dust jacket. "The United States became a great power in the last quarter of the nineteenth century and a superpower during World War II without quite knowing it. Few Americans fully appreciate the fact today. How many people know that in recent years we have had 250,000 troops in 700 bases around the world? Consider our recent history of military operations in the Caribbean, East Asia, the Far East, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Balkans. In America Rising, David Felix attempts to explain how and why America became a superpower by examining the political and economic factors that have driven its ascendance and their relationship throughout history. Felix begins with the dawn of America, showing how America amassed wealth and political power from the start through wars, assertions of economic might, and the creation of a cultural and philosophical base. The nation began with a political order, derived from our British origins, which enabled our pragmatic culture to take advantage of the vast wealth of a near-virgin continent. Political and economic freedom were paired, authority yielding to both freedoms. Our farmers and businessmen were dreamers, manufacturing realities out of those dreams. Felix's account then makes a point of neoclassical economics as an anvil on which to hammer out a sharper sense of the content of our existence. This book, which demonstrates the author's zest for historical analysis and great story-telling ability, points to the central fact of a rising America--the intensely energizing interaction between polity and economy. The United States is the greatest power in world history, but the rise of another great power, China, is beginning to be increasingly apparent. One trusts that, drawing upon its deep resources, America will remember its history and traditions and continue as a superpower." (Front and back flap)

19980109London, Phaidon, 1999. A hardbound in-quarto volume with dust jacket and protective mylar, 278 x 200 mm, 146 pp. SIGNED by Mario Testino at the top of the title page. "Provocative and unexpected, Any Objections? is a lightning roller-coaster of unpublished images which brilliantly illuminates the vision of one of photography's shrewdest eyes. Fashion and the gutter, nature and artifice, high life and low, jostle for his attention. Faces of the very famous in the least expected places, bodies of the very beautiful, landscapes and cities, close friends and extraordinary passersby all find their place in a pattern which is held together by Testino's evident sense of the absurd. The book is an insight into the raw material of fashion, where a glimpse of life from a street in Tangier can be the inspiration for a fashion story in New York. At once diary and commentary, picture after picture (all reproduced full-page) provoke reactions as diverse as their subject-matter: from shock to amusement and from surprise to delight. Whether or not you have any objections, you can't help being intrigued by Testino's very personal view of the world that surrounds him." (Front flap)
19920199São Paulo, BM&F, 1992. Revised edition. In English. One hardcover volume, 285 x 225 mm, 254 pp. Illustrated dust jacket with flaps. Headbands. Printed on couché paper, well illustrated with black and white photographs and color prints of artworks, including a b&w photo of Victor Brecheret, Di Cavalcanti, Menotti del Picchia, Oswald de Andrade and Hélio Seelinger as frontispiece. Published as part of the celebration of the seventieth anniversary of the Modern Art Week of 1922. "This book has blazed new paths towards a comprehensive and fertile understanding. It was originally published in 1970 and now, after so many years, the abridged text of this edition still preserves a pioneering stamp that could only be achieved through sensitivity and a steadfast prospecting of sources. In the field of plastic arts, what would be the meaning of a cultural construction of Brazil? Would it imply highlighting certain subjects? The fundamental contribution of the modernists was precisely the fact that it posed the problem of national culture."
202001004United Kingdom, Scarlet Imprint, 2020. "In Artaud and the Gnostic Drama, Jane Goodall offers a reappraisal of the importance of Antonin Artaud (18961948), mythologised as an icon of failure and madness, and examines the intricate parallels between his heretical dramaturgy and the heresies of ancient Gnosticism. The book situates Artaud, as the most extravagant of heretics, in company with the Gnostics whose speculations served to define heresy in the beginnings of the Christian tradition. Artaud subscribed to the Gnostic idea that the sensible world was created by a demiurge who was “imperfect, possibly evil and depraved.” His cosmology is inherently dramatic, setting creature against creator, force against form, matter against spirit, pious knowledge against heretical gnosis. Jane Goodall argues that major post-structuralist critics such as Derrida, Deleuze, and Foucault, who have enlisted Artaud in their own anti-orthodoxies, have refused to pay attention to the terms of his own heresy. In this refusal, they display an anxiety towards the gnostic drama and its heresies, which mount an assault that may be more powerful than their own upon the founding tenets of western thought." (Publisher's abstract) This work was first published by the Clarendon Press, Oxford in 1994. The text has been lightly revised for this second edition and is illustrated.
