These books were well-read within France at the time for reflecting current events with historical accuracy but through the personal lens of fictionalised characters. Erckmann-Chatrian was the name used by Emile Erckmann 1822-1899 and Alexandre Chatrian 1826-1890 who both specialised in military fiction as well as ghost stories and co-wrote these works together. They wrote a range of works together from 1847 to the mid-1880s when they had a quarrel and would not produce any more stories jointly. Undated so dated from Jisc using similar copies held at the British Library as well as the University of Edinburgh and University of Oxford. Two pages of publisher's adverts to the rear of the 'Waterloo' section of text.Collated complete. Bound in a full-calf morocco binding with Wimbledon School gilt inscription on front boards.
