Im Sommer 1689 wurde er wohl auch auf Vorschlag von Madame de Maintenon deren geistlicher Berater er inzwischen geworden war von Ludwig XIV. zum Erzieher seines 7-jährigen Enkels und eventuellen Thronfolgers des Duc de Bourgogne berufen.
