There was also a 1734 folio edition of this work limited to 150 copies. The engravings of the two editions are similar. Our copy contains the suppressed "Ode" last six pages of the text. First edition published 1699: it was also considered an attack on the divine right of absolute monarchy and the the most popular book of its time. BRUNET. p.1214 calls it a "belle edition." GORDON N. Originally published in 1699; this edition states it 'conforms to the original manuscript and is enriched with figures.' Frontis foldout map and eight full-page engravings. Beige boards with brown spine titling. Boards in fair condition for age showing considerable soiling toning some mild chipping and small stained spots. Bumping and warping near corners. Spine shaken soiled; titling barely legible. Binding a little loose but holding. All signatures attached. Interior shows heavy toning throughout and liquid staining to bottom edges near gutter. Fold-out map present shows creasing and toning. Map last joint has come detached at its hinge and presently laid in. Interior else unmarked and complete.
