The boards are rubbed with a few chips to the marbled paper. Spine lightly sunned with a touch of wear to the joints which are otherwise strong and tight. Evidence of removal of bookplate to inside front board. Hinges tight. Contents very clean. A handsome copy in good plus condition. Louys 1870-1925 was a French poet and novelist. Born in Ghent he moved to Paris where in 1891 he founded a review called 'Le Conque' to which many of the most famous French authors of the day contributed. In this journal he printed his first poems many of which later appeared in 'Astarte' 1891. His lyrics based on the Greek form which he so much admired are masterpieces of style. It tells the love story between Chrysis a courtesan and the sculptor Demetrios.
