1935201382<p>Hollywood: Paramount Studio 1935. First Edition. Paperback. Fine. Stapled sheets 14" x 8-1/2". Stamped twice one saying "Form '2 Censorship Dialogue Script" and the other "File Copy Return to Script Dept. Paramount Studio-Hollywood." Pencil notation from Peter Howard below title. John Dos Passos adapted Pierre Louys' story into this screenplay. It was released that same year directed by Josef von Sternberg and starring Marlene Dietrich Lionel Atwill Cesar Romero Edward Everett Horton and Alison Skipworth. The Spanish Embassy demanded that the film be withdrawn from circulation and that all prints be destroyed. A financial flop anyway Paramount agreed to supress all copies of the film in November 1935. It was considered lost until Sternberg magically produced a copy for the 1959 Venice Film Festival.</p> Paramount Studio paperback
