From prominent French historian and philosopher Charles de Secondat baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu. First published anonymously in 1734 this detailled text on the complete lifespan of the Roman empire is an important work in the study of the field later inspiring Edward Gibbon's six-volume 1776 The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
