Part of the publisher's series "Bohn's Illustrated Library". With a contemporary bookplate and signature of G. Peabody Gardner noted in pencil as a Harvard student. A pleasing copy of Petrarch's literary oeuvre a highlight of medieval literature and poetry. Two cracks to the gutter in different spots of the textblock the binding remains tight and secure. Backstrip faded hinges cracked pages clean a good copy inscribed by the author.<br /> <br /> § First edition reverently inscribed by the author to Celia Clark a member of one of San Francisco's founding families wife of Charles Clark son of the Copper King and thus sister-in-law of the library founder William Andrews Clark Jr. The inscription reads "For Celia Clark this my own personal copy is inscribed with affection and humility by her devoted Joseph Auslander." Joseph Auslander 1897-1965 American poet was the Poet Laureate Consultant in English Poetry for the Library of Congress from 1937 to 1941.
