His correspondent Thomas M. Stone was the librarian at the RCS. Stone had sent Wilson "two Catalogues of the Autograph Sales where you will find the remainder of the Hunters which you told me to purchase for you. Let me know what to give per letter or will you leave it to me!!!" Wilson replied: "By all means leave it to you; you cannot fail to please; I will end as I began 'Buy all'." In a punning postscript Wilson wondered "if your autographs and music will ever fetch money-Not a bad mint not Badminton if they did."
. unknown

1852790Philadelphia: Blanchard & Lea 1852. First American Edition.

This 1852 American edition of On Syphilis Constitutional and Hereditary; and on Syphilitic Eruptions by Erasmus Wilson F.R.S. presents one of the most important mid-19th-century clinical treatises on venereal disease. Wilson—already renowned for his dermatological writings—provides a detailed examination of the pathology transmission symptoms and progression of syphilis with special emphasis on the distinction between primary and constitutional disease. The text includes discussions of contemporary treatment protocols case observations and the evolving medical understanding of syphilitic eruptions. This edition also includes a dedicatory preface to Philip Ricord the leading French authority on syphilis acknowledging Ricord’s influence on Wilson’s own work.

The volume is further distinguished by four hand-colored plates illustrating syphilitic lesions with notable clarity and detail—an important resource for physicians of the period and a major reason for the book’s collectibility today. The copy contains period library markings from the Cincinnati Hospital Library received 1893 and the Colorado Medical Library Association giving it documented medical-institution provenance. Internal pages show scattered foxing typical of American medical publications of this era and all plates appear present. Overall this is a historically important medical monograph documenting 19th-century venereal disease treatment and dermatological study.

Condition & Binding: Bound in the original publisher’s dark cloth blind-stamped with decorative panels and gilt spine title WILSON ON SYPHILIS. The cloth shows typical institutional wear: rubbing to boards fraying at spine ends and a library call-number label at the foot of the spine. Hinges remain intact and the text block is firm. Internally the book contains library stamps accession numbers and pencil shelf marks. Pages show scattered foxing mostly light with some plates showing mild offsetting. The four color lithographic plates are present well-preserved and retain good coloration. Overall- good. Blanchard & Lea unknown
1845295321845. Med.-Chir. Trans. 28. - Published by the Medical and Chirurgical Society. London 1845 8° XXXV 640 pp. 6 z.T. farb. lith. Tafeln Halbledereinband der Zeit; Rücken erneuert frisches Exemplar. First Edition! Sir Erasmus Wilson 1809-1884 a pupil of Hebra distinguished himself first in anatomy and was elected member of the Royal College of Surgeons but soon decided in spite of the prejudice against specialism in England to devote himself to dermatology. His contributions were many. He described trichorrexis nodosa erythema nodosum universal exfoliative dermatitis. His outstanding nosologic feat here was the assembly of the various manifestions of lichen planus into the category of a single disease; this he first described and named 1869. His suggestions of the addition of benzoic acid as a preservative for ointments introduced benzoated ointments. His chief works of the Skin 1842 which went through at least six editions. His writings on the care of the skin for laymen were credited with having made the bath popular in England. His observations and original suggestions his able writings and particularly the sanity with which he applied his comprehensive knowledge to the practical problems of dermatology made him one of the great dermatologists."
