Dalla mobilità seducente e allusiva delle apparizioni fantasmatiche alle trappole dell’identico, dal tramonto dell’ombra all’alba fredda degli specchi, si delinea il disegno complessivo del difficile rapporto tra l’io e la propria immagine e si intravede una mistica che non si spiega soltanto attraverso le sue fughe dal mondo, ma che – invece di perdersi nell’indistinto – impara, con la Pizia, a contare, come scrive Erodoto «il numero dei grani di sabbia e le onde del mare». Rispetto a una teoretica classica che riflette sulle origini del sacro, e sulle sue forme, già individuate nei luoghi di un sapere che non disattende mai le sue premesse, secondo gli autori è possibile pensare a una storia delle religioni che confini con una filosofia delle immagini. Il libro ricorda che la beatitudine è proporzionale all’affinamento delle capacità percettive. Celebre, a questo proposito, la descrizione demartiniano dello stato dell’olon: «il soggetto, in luogo di udire o di vedere lo stormire delle foglie, diventa un albero le cui foglie sono agitate dal vento, in luogo di udire la parola, diventa la parola che ode». Numerose e intense le rivisitazioni della questione che ispira il titolo. Non ultima quella per la quale nel passaggio dalla religione greco-romana a quella cristiana la scansione fondamentale sembra essere data dalla rottura degli argini costruiti dai greci intorno all’Ade, facendo sì che una folla di oscure presenze si sparga imprevedibilmente sull’intero creato. Una lettura piacevole e scorrevole che con rapide ma puntuali citazioni recupera a un tema complesso e denso nomi (tra altri) come quello di Borges, Nietzsche, Pessoa, Hume, Wilson, Platone. Francesco De Sio Lazzari ha insegnato a lungo Storia delle religioni all’Orientale di Napoli. Studioso del “disprezzo del mondo” nel XII secolo, ha uno spiccato interesse per la simbolica delle passioni che analizza non solo nei testi religiosi ma anche in quelli filosofici e letterari. Giuliana Scalera McClintock insegna Filosofia dei ststemi simbolici a Salerno. Allo studio delle figure e delle sequenze mitiche in letteratura e in filosofia affianca un forte interesse per il versante teorico delle scienze del mito. Il labirinto e l’ombra.
