Hard covers no dust jacket Ex-library copy with cancelled bookplate shelfmark on spine etc. The editor has selected Bradley's writings on succulent plants from two of his major compendia and appended them to Bradley's major work translated as "A history of succulent plants" facsimile of the first edition which is very rare in a complete state. Rowley's introduction not only sets Bradley's pioneering work on applied botany into context with a short bibliography but also collates and re-identifies the plants illustrated in the Historia Plantarum Succulentarum 1716-27. The 'flier' for this work published in 1710 is also included though the facsimile here is of lower quality. The book bears only the original pagination. The plate of Aloe americana is printed on a fold-out. Each fascicle of the major work is dedicated to a different patron: respectively Robert Balle FRS Sir Hans Sloane PRS Charles Dubois Esq. Dr Sherrard Ll.D. FRS evidently William Sherard 1659-1728 as he is described as "late consul at Smyrna" and Sir Charles Wager. The Gregg Press Ltd hardcover
