Bound in black publisher's cloth with title and author in gilt with arrow motif. Title etc in gilt on spine along with A 12341. Headband chipped off and peeling to part of the spine edges of boards frayed. Embossed ownership stamp on title page with initials MM ALC. Overall FAIR to GOOD condition. H. Dennis Bradley 1878–1934 was one of the leading British advocates of Spiritualism during the 1920s and a defender of the direct-voice medium George Valiantine. He cleared Valiantine of three exposure charges. His 1931 publication of . And After however demonstrated Bradley's change in opinion of Valiantine's mediumistic talents as well as taking to task a Mr. R. Sproull who in turn took Bradley to court. The result of Sproull's case saw Bradley sued for £500 and his book withdrawn from circulation by the publisher-- evident by the green rubber stamping of 'Withdrawn' on this copy. T. Solid with a spine lean a bump on the bottom right corner of the front cover with some fraying a smaller bump on the bottom of the back cover small spots of fraying of the cloth on the corners of the covers tiny tears on the top of the spine and the covers show light wear. The previous owner's rubber stamp is on the front free end paper and the rest of the interior is unmarked. There is some splitting of the paper in the gutter between the rear free end paper and back cover. The cloth webbing beneath is intact. Good. 8vo pp402 24 b/w mostly full-page photographic plates of "Exhibits" - Seance imprints etc. plus 6 pages of list of publications to rear. Hardcover no dust jacket. Original binding of black cloth with gilt titles and design of arrow to front board and spine in fair condition with top and very bottom of spine missing some marks to boards and a little fading to gilt. Inside back hinge starting to crack exposing the webbing but binding still tight and sound. Inside but for the odd spot of foxing all pages and plates clean and bright and in very good condition. Dennis Bradley was a British author who wrote in support of Spiritualism and psychic phenomena. He was also a direct voice medium an ability he claimed he developed after his experiences with the medium George Valiantine in America. After later accusing Valiantine of exposure and fraud Bradley himself had an action for libel by R. Sproull against him losing with £500 damages. This book was withdrawn from circulation after July 1932 by the publishers due to the court case making this quite scarce. <br/> <br/> T. Werner Laurie Ltd. hardcover
