1952510
There are two tears each one by the both 2cm. These are really hard to see though since they are placed in a spot that is not easily noticed. Because of this the dust-jacket looks beautifully presentable. The dust-jacket has no mention of nobel prize and has the 3 dollar price. The book itself is in great condition very fresh internally without stains or foxing but is slightly forward-leaning. A name has also been beautifully written on front free endpage. The gilt is still very clear. The book has a minor stain 1mm on lower side of book. The color on the book is still very vibrant.
I can send more pictures if wanted.
Charles Scribners & Sons hardcover

1952509
In superb condition. Dust-jacket has dome very minor tears. Low down on one of the flaps tear is starting to be a very small tear but the piece is still attached so there isnt really a there yet only very small Minor wear and extremely small tears by flaps. Some discolourstion on the top of the flaps on the jacket. The back of the jacket seems to have become s slight bit tanned but still very good in colour. The jacket has very vibrant red colour otherwise but my camera doednt pick this up to well. But the red colour is really dark red and bright. Over the W on the jacket there is a minor scuff. The are also some minor stains on jacket as on the page. The jacket is not restored and looks really good from the inside. On the inner front board a name has been written but erased with a eraser. A number has also been erased on the inner front board. A few pages about 3 in a row have faint dog-ears. The book is very vibrant in the blue colour and not tanned on the back as it usually is.
I would gladly send more pictures if wished:
Jonathan Cape hardcover

Roy8vo XXII 211pp. A tight hardcover binding in deckled grey boards with a gold Hemingway signature on front board with a light brown cloth binding with a gold title on the spine. The surface of the boards has been scarred on edges by a previous poorly alligned protective cover from a private library with associated old tape marks on boards and both ep's and the attractive first edition unclipped US d/w is in very good condition with top edge spine chipping being its only fault now protected in removeable clear archival covering There is a slight anterior lean and minor flecking on edges with top edge faded olive green as issued but no d/w repairs present or required. internally the pages are undamaged and clean devoid of inscriptions and notes though as described the endpapers are a little battle scarred with the book being overall well loved but still in very good condition. These small stories are really a memoir about the wonderful days the author spent in Europe particularly in Paris with his first wife as an expatriate journalist and writer in the 1920's. Deceased in 1961 the book was published posthumously in 1964 and the memoir references together with some amazing b/w photos many important notable figures such as Sylvia Beach Hilaire Belloc the Fitzgeralds James Joyce and Gertrude Stein. Many bars cafes and hotels still exist and can be visited today in Paris. The fascinating rediscovery of his 1920's notebooks in the basement of the Ritz in a case made for him by Louis Vuitton of course enabled the emergence of this fascinating memoir that really is a must for any Hemingway devotee and in many ways more important to devour than some of his more famous novels. Written between sojourns in Cuba from 1957 then Spain then Idaho to finish it in Cuba again in 1960 it concerns the years 1921 to 1926 in Paris. Charles Scribner's Sons. New York. 1964 (First US edition, First impression) hardcover

"A Farewell to Arms is a novel by Ernest Hemingway set during the Italian campaign of World War I. First published in 1929 it is a first-person account of an American Frederic Henry serving as a lieutenant "tenente" in the ambulance corps of the Italian Army. The title is taken from a poem by the 16th-century English dramatist George Peele. The novel set against the backdrop of World War I describes a love affair between the expatriate Henry and an English nurse Catherine Barkley. Its publication ensured Hemingway's place as a modern American writer of considerable stature. The book became his first best-seller and has been called "the premier American war novel from that debacle World War I." The novel has been adapted a number of times initially for the stage in 1930; as a film in 1932 and again in 1957 and as a three-part television miniseries in 1966. The 1996 film In Love and War directed by Richard Attenborough and starring Chris O'Donnell and Sandra Bullock depicts Hemingway's life in Italy as an ambulance driver in the events prior to his writing of A Farewell to Arms.
