Softcover 24 issues bound in printed gray wrappers titled in black on the front covers and the spines. The edges of the covers are slightly creased with minor chipping to the head & tail of a few of the spines. A couple of the issues have a tiny tear to the bottom edge of their covers and there is a small stain to front cover of one issue. The run consists of Volume XXXII Nos 19-24 January 1 - March 15 1928; Volume XXXIII Nos 1-6 April 1 - June 15 1928; Volume XXXIV Nos 7-12 July 1 - September 15 1928; Volume XXXV Nos 13-18 October 1 - December 15 1928. Each volume has 768 consecutively numbered pages. All but 2 of the issues have several pages of ads printed on orange stock bound in at the front of each issue. There are minor creases and chips to the overlapping edges of the deckle-edged pages. A very attractive run of this periodical. <p>Maurice Renard: UN HOMME CHEZ LES MICROBES: SCHERZO. First edition as first published in serial form from April 1 through May 15 1928 in "la Revue universelle". This fantastic science fiction novel concerns the theme of the shrinking man. Maurice Renard 1875-1939 has been until recently little known outside the French speaking world. This probably was the result of a lack of translations available to English speakers. The work at hand is an early scientific novel on the theme of miniaturization.<p>Also in this run of the journal is the first publication of the French translation of PORGY by DuBose Hayward. The translation is the work of Denyse Clairouin 1900-1945 a translator and a French Resistance fighter. She was arrested in 1943 and deported to Ravensbruck and later to Mauthausen where she died in March 1945. Porgy is serialized from August 1 - September 15 1928.<p>In addition to these two important works the journals at hand contain: Two articles by Knud Rasmussen "Chez les Esquimaux" and "Chez les Esquimaux: sorcellerie et superstions"; letters of Marcel Proust to Paul Brach; "La Sauvagine" by Joseph d'Arbaud; "La Vie et les amours d'Edgar A. 18654564Paris: Dusacq et cie 1865. A lovely copy of this hand coloured lithograph abstracted from Draner's Types Militaires. It shows a member of the Belgian civil guard fishing in his uniform holding an attractive green umbrella. The print itself is clean and bright signed in the plate to the lower right hand side. The surrounding card is a little darkened with light foxing some staining to the top edge and some small edge wear. Slight repair to one edge. Image is 29cm x 20cm. Plate is 44.5cm x 31cm. First edition. . Bel exemplaire de cette lithographie coloriée à la main extraite des Types militaires de Draner. Elle représente un membre de la garde civile belge pêchant dans son uniforme tenant un joli parapluie vert. La lithographie elle-même est propre et brillante signée dans la plaque en bas à droite. La carte qui l'entoure est un peu assombrie avec de légères rousseurs quelques taches sur le bord supérieur et une petite usure des bords. Légère réparation sur un bord. L'image mesure 29 cm x 20 cm. A fine and large and decorative sea chart depicting West Africa with its coastline from Gambia in the north towards Angola and the Congo in the southern part. The antique sea chart is equipped with two compass roses and three sailing ships for decoration. Along the coastline with engraved bays place names and small islands. This rare map was published around 1700 in Louis Renard's famous sea-atlas. Louis Renard received the copperplates of Frederic De Wit´s maritime atlas. Louis Renard did only minor modifications to the plate of map he addedapud L. RenardÂ’ below the engraved titles. Louis Renard unknown
