19321234429New York: Albert & Charles Boni 1932. Uniform Edition. Hardcover. Second printing of this title in the Uniform Edition set of REMEMBRANCE OF THINGS PAST. A hardcover book in very good condition with the scarce dustjacket in good condition. The jacket shows chipping of a quarter-inch at the crown of the spine affecting the lettering in the author's name. There are just a few bits of edgewear along the top of the back panel. A scarce edition issued during the Great Depression and particulalry scarce in the dustjacket. The book is clean and tight but the front hinge was starting and has been neatly reinforced with archival tape. The Uniform Edition was the first attempt to issue the various volumes of Proust's masterpiece A LA RECHERCHE DU TEMPS PERDU in their English translations in a popular and inexpensive format. This particular effort failed and it ended up being the Modern Library edition which made Proust more widely distributed. Albert & Charles Boni hardcover

I find it difficult to claim this is a First Thus because of the arcane nature of Knopf's magnificent series of pocket classics but all this says is Copyright 1927. What I can be sure about is this is a classy copy and it has no annotations or former owner names. It has an attractiveness on the shelf. It has the sniff appeal of the best collectable books. I love it and commend it to you. Language: eng. Hardcover. Near Fine. Modern Library New York hardcover
