1933932T3Paris: Le Divan 1933-1934. Hardback. Very Good Indeed. 6.5" by 4". None. A complete ten volume set of this limited edition collection of the correspondence of the French writer known as Stendhal in the original French. French. Complete in ten volumes. Limited to one-thousand eight-hundred and twenty-five copies of which this is number five hundred and twenty-five. The correspondence of Marie-Henri Beyle better known by his pen name Stendhal a French writer. Best known for the novels Le Rouge et le Noir 1830 and La Chartreuse de Parme 1839 he is highly regarded for the acute analysis of his characters' psychology and considered one of the foremost practitioners of realism. Stendhal used many aliases in his autobiographical writings and correspondence and often assigned pseudonyms to friends. It is believed that he used more than one-hundred pseudonyms which were astonishingly diverse and usually comic to appear even more bourgeois than he truly was. One of his correspondents Prosper Merimee said "He never wrote a letter without signing a false name." Volume one contains letters from 1800-1805. Volume two contains letters from 1805-1808. Volume three contains letters from 1808-1811. Volume four contains letters from 1812-1816. Volume five contains letters from 1816-1820. Volume six contains letters from 1821-1830.
