A selection of five volumes containing the poetry of Rudyard Kipling.With the first edition first impression of 'The Years Between' and later editions of the remaining works. Each bound in the publisher's original maroon cloth. Rudyard Kipling was an English short-story writer poet and novelist best known for his works of fiction including 'The Jungle Book' and 'The Man Who Would be King'. He is considered a significant literary figure for his works' vivid portrayals of British India and its explorations of themes of imperialism and clash of cultures. This set demonstrates wonderful examples of Kipling's poetry including 'The Barrack-Room Ballads' which contains some of his best-known works including 'Gunga Din' 'Tommy' 'Mandalay' and 'Danny Deever'. Vignette of bugler to title page. Pages have slight foxing tanning and thumbing. Gutters cracked with some exposed netting. A bit shaky with loose binding thread and loosening front matter. Pencil marks to FEP and both pastedown. Slightly bubbled pastedowns. Sporadic heavy stains and thumb marks text legible throughout. A few dog-eared corners. Boards have heavy edge wear: intense bumping and peeling to corners. Slightly exposed board beneath. Spine ends very crushed: loss to ends and title label. A collection of 42 poems all but eight of which had appeared previously in The Scots Observer and other periodicals with sixteen also having been included in Departmental Ditties Barrack-Room Ballads and Other Verses in 1890.
