Duodecimo original wrappers volume one number two printed in red and black illustrated with the original detached portrait of Kipling from an etching by William Strang laid in. In very good condition. Illustrated and designed by H.W. Colby. Rudyard Kipling’s occasional poems reflect his distinctive ability to merge public commentary with poetic craft transforming topical or ephemeral subjects into enduring reflections on empire duty and human character. Written primarily during his years in British India and later reprinted in collections such as Departmental Ditties and Other Verses 1886 these works—originally composed for newspapers and limited pamphlets—combine wit irony and moral insight to capture the social texture of colonial life.
