Viking ship is stamped in black on front and spine as well. Stamped double lined ruling around perimeter of front and top edge gilt. Book is tight square relatively sharp-cornered - with some minor bumping - and free of markings or major flaws inside or out other than prior owners name on FFEP and a few spots on spine where cloth has bubbled up a tiny bit. Prior owner: ""Mr. Henry J. Hosner sp Jr. January 1 1899"" in neat script on FFEP. Illustrated with a frontispiece with a tissue guard and seven additional plates by W. L. Sonntag E. L. Blumenschein and W. D. Stevens. This edition preceded the British edition by about five weeks and is the First Edition First Printing signified by a printing error on page 189 - a half closed 'o' in the word 'into' on page 189. A mixed collection of twelve stories by Kipling while he was living in Vermont. Included in these stories is one titled ""007."" 431 pp. 1st / 1st Doubleday & McClure Co. hardcover

Joseph Rudyard Kipling was a English journalist novelist poet and short story writer. Born in colonial India Kipling spent his school days in England. One of the leading authors of the 19th and 20th century he is perhaps famous for his novel 'The Jungle Book'. An extremely influential and popular writer poet Alison Brackenbury once stated 'Kipling is poetry's Dicken's'. In 1907 aged 42 he won the Nobel Prize for Literature making him the first English language writer to receive the accolade. Rudyard Kipling is of course best remember his novel 'The Jungle Book'.
